What tequila should you use?
When it comes to choosing tequilas I tend to gravitate towards blanco and recently discovered Lobos 1707, which is now carried in Target. Lobos 1707 Joven Tequila is an unaged tequila that has a touch of Reposado and then aged in sherry casks. It’s crafted by Spanish and Mexican distillers and is smooth with a subtle sweetness coming through from the Blue Weber agave.
Lobos 1707 Tequila and Mezcal is a new brand that was only launched in 2020 by founder Diego Osorio. The Lobos 1707 pack has grown into an incredible community that focuses on diversity, inclusion, and giving back. I love that the brand was inspired by the pack mentality of wolves, (lobos means wolves in Spanish), and they donate to wolf sanctuaries in effort to save the misunderstood creatures.
How do you spice up your margaritas?
Now for the cocktail. There are many ways to make a spicy pineapple margarita, Lobos 1707 has their signature one called, The Coa’s Edge, where they also use cucumbers in the recipe. One can create a jalapeno simple syrup by combining equal parts sugar, and water, and then adding in jalapeno slices. I’ve done this in the past, but for this recipe I kept it simple and only added a few jalapeno slices to the shaker. I like to do it this way because it takes a little less effort and also helps control the heat level. I like my spicy margaritas a little mild, but you can add more slices to the recipe to give it more of a kick.
