Francis Ford Coppola Winery
Northern California has my heart for a multitude of reasons. Being originally from here I love to come out whenever I get the chance to visit with friends and family. This time however was a special occasion. My oldest sister was getting married to the love of her life and I could not be more ecstatic for the happy couple. The ceremony was simple and eloquent, I only cried once, and the reception was a celebration filled with laughter and dance moves. This post however is on another special day where we ventured down to a gorgeous Vineyard in Geyserville California.
The newly weds
Francis Ford Coppola Winery
Francis Ford Coppola is a highly esteemed movie producer best known for The Godfather series. Later in his life he took his fortune and success to commercial ventures, including a family friendly winery. His vision for this winery was not that of an average wine tasting experience. He based it off of the Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen, which in Coppola’s words was “the inspiration for ultimately all modern amusements parks.”
I love Coppola’s vision and how it is illuminated throughout the winery. As you enter the property there is a swimming pool for families to relax at and children to have fun. Then entering the building you are surrounded by enchanting memorabilia from all the different movies he produced. Exiting towards the balcony takes you to a lookout of the winery with mountains in the back ground creating a picture perfect frame.
Tasting
My family and I were treated by my grandma, better known as Nanny, to the first flight experience. This included four to five tastings of their limited production wines. Each wine series was based off of people or ideas close to Coppola’s heart. My favorite was the Sofia collection named after his beloved daughter. I even bought a bottle of the Blanc de Blanc, a sweet champagne.

Another favorite of mine was the director’s cut edition. Every wine in this collection is specifically from Sonoma’s unique microclimate area and wrapped in Zoetrope strips. Zoetrope strips are the origin to film making and when spinned create moving pictures. Coppola’s personal collection of Zoetrope strips he owned as a kid are displayed on each bottle.
Final thoughts
The entire winery enchants you like none other. From the tasting to the dining and unique movie details you truly feel like you’re in an exciting museum or part of an amusement park. It is a special place for families, couples or a girls night out. The Francis Ford Coppola Winery is definitely worth another visit and you may just catch me working there within a year. For more details on the winery you can visit their site here.
Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you have any favorite wineries in your area.

I love their Claret wine. But I went straight to Sonoma county on a recent trip to some of my favorite varietals. Given your review, I will put it on my list next time around. Thanks.
